2017 Memorial Day Dining Deals in the Valley

Posted on: May 21st, 2017 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

While Memorial Day often marks the official beginning of summer, it really is so much more. And yes, I will give you an array of 2017 Memorial Day dining deals in the Valley, but I think it is also important to remember the purpose of the day. So, while you may be ready to don those flip-flops and slather on the sunblock before heading out to the pool for cocktails and serious doses of Vitamin D, let’s recap the reason we all have May 29th off shall we?

Memorial Day Facts

  • Memorial Day is always observed in America on the last Monday of May
  • This holiday, not to be confused with Veterans Day, is to remember and honor the men and women who died while serving in the US military.
A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3pm (all time zones) on Memorial Day.
  • The current holiday started on May 5th, 1868 by General John A. Logan. He was a leader of an organization for the Northern Civil War Veterans. He declared the 30th of the May as Decoration Day for the purpose, “of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country.”

Now that we have that out of the way, on to the food.
