At the beginning of the year there are always all sorts of predictions. Predictions as to what the new trends will be that year, from restaurant concepts to travel trends, from the new hot vegetable to the most reached for beverages. Our friends at Flavorman, one of the nation’s leading beverage development companies, think they have a handle on what we will all be drinking this year. Their flavor forecast is that we are all going to be seeking out healthy and clean favors, some familiar flavors as well as a some more exotic flavors. The New Ginger

Top 2017 Flavor Forecast: TumericThe age old spice Tumeric, is known for its warm, sharp taste and golden color. Its powerful health benefits range from reducing cholesterol to controlling diabetes. It is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.  Tumeric is usually found in teas such as cold and flu fighting apple green tea and cleansing smoothies like carrot, beet and turmeric.

 

Tree of Life

coconutCoconut is known for its distinct tropical flavor. This exquisite flavor has a subtle sweetness with undertones of butterscotch and caramel. It provides a great source of meat, juice, milk and oil. Coconut is  known for its healing properties for treating asthma, kidney stones and tumors.

 

Some Like It Hot

spicy flavorsSpicy flavors are turning products up a notch. Hot and spicy flavors have risen in popularity in beverages over recent years due in part to the ongoing interest and exploration of ethnic cuisines across the United States. Major distillers are creating specific line extensions to add spice to their already existing products such as spicy versions of rum, bourbon and whiskey.

 

Runners Up

coffee beansHerbal accent flavors. It makes traditional flavors more interesting and unique. Coffee in non-coffee beverages such as cream liquors, alcoholic and non alcoholic. Right now chili and chocolate are popular in coffee, combining two trends on the list.

That’s So Last Year

orange and gingerThe top flavors of 2016 were ginger, orange and lime. In fact, they are regulars. Orange is #1 or #2 almost every year. In an unusual case this year, Tumeric is part of the ginger family and trading places for the number one spot.
