LDV Winery Release Sky Island Petite Sirah

Posted on: January 31st, 2017 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Owners and winemakers Curt Dunham and Peggy Fiandaca recently debuted their latest creation from their Chiricahua Mountain estate vineyards at LDV Winery: the 2013 Sky Island Petite Sirah.

2013 Sky Island Petite SirahThis is the first Sky Island Petite Sirah they have produced since their first estate vintage of 2009. The 2013 version was given an extended aging time of 33 months to both concentrate and smooth out the brambly fruit of the 2013 vintage. The fruit’s intensity prompted the use of 100 percent neutral oak barrels, resulting in the production of an unoaked version of their popular Petite Sirah bottlings.

Curt and Peggy truly appreciate the “grape-to-glass” journey of each of their wines, which is why the LDV Winery “Sky Island” labeled wines are crafted to showcase the grapes grown at 5,000 feet elevation in the Chiricahua Mountains. LDV Winery uses minimal processing and 100 percent neutral barrels for their Sky Island wines and does not fine nor filter the wine. Named for the 70,000-square mile Sky Island region in Southeast Arizona, LDV Winery’s Sky Island wines are distinct in character and beauty — much like the region itself.

The Sky Island Petite Sirah, which marries some of LDV Vineyards’ estate-grown Syrah into this bottling, has an amazing nose featuring black raspberries and lilac, with black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of rose petals on the finish. Perfect to enjoy on the patio while watching the sun sink from the Arizona sky. The 2013 Sky Island Petite Sirah pairs beautifully with a cheese plate – particularly one that includes a hunk of aged parmesan cheese. For something heartier, this wine also complements proteins such as a mesquite grilled prime rib or a juicy burger topped with bleu cheese.

With just 250 cases produced, the 2013 Sky Island Petite Sirah retails at $30 per bottle. LDV Winery has a devoted following who receive wine discounts and other amenities through their membership in the LDV Sky Islander Wine Club. Watch here as Curt and Peggy personally share their excitement of this new release on their YouTube Channel, or stop into LDV Winery Wine Gallery in located at 6951 E. 1st Street in Downtown Scottsdale to enjoy wine flights and small bites.
