Beer and Wine Pairings for Super Bowl Party Food

Posted on: January 29th, 2017 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

When it comes to Super Bowl party fare, more frequently than not, you’ll find beer, some chips and maybe a collection of dips. It doesn’t have to be that way though. If you are looking to put some real thought into your Super Bowl spread, Amy Gutierrez and Bill Hayes, BevMo’s! head of beer and wine, have some great suggestions on the perfect pairings. These suggestions will also help in a pinch if you don’t have control over the food being served.

Best Beer Pairings for your Super Bowl party food

Pizza | If you’re ordering up Hawaiian style pizza, try a classic American blonde ale, as the sweetness in the malt goes well with the ham and pineapple, it also tones down the acid in the fruit.

Southwestern Style Chili | A nice spicy chili goes well with a Brown Ale as the nuttiness of the ale will tone down the heat.

Asian Style Wings | Try a beer from Belgium as the beer is brewed with spices such as coriander and orange peel.

Chips and salsa | This perfect game day snack with guacamole and cheese, goes well with an amber lager, as this style of beer has the sweetness to tone down the spiciness and the lager cleanses the palette of the salt from the chips.

Pulled pork sandwiches | This messy, meaty hand held treat needs a porter style beer, it will complement the pork with its smoky flavors and it could go with either a BBQ sauce or a tangy Carolina sauce.

Veggies and bacon and cheese dip | Grab an IPA style beer, it will cut the fat of the bacon in the cheesy dip and leave your palette clean and wanting more.

Best Wine Pairings for your Super Bowl party food

Buffalo Wings | Go with a Zinfandel if the wings have a bbq sauce or a Riesling if the wings are spicy (a dry Riesling with high acidity will cut through the spice).

Guacamole & Chips | Opt for a Chenin Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc.  A crisp white will cut through the fat of the avocado.  A Granach from Spain works if you prefer red.

Grilled Burger with Blue Cheese | A Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is perfect here. Go big on the big game.

No matter where you go or how you choose to celebrate, we hope that you have a great Super Bowl party and that you do so responsibly.
