Singh Meadows in Tempe to Open January 21st

Posted on: January 20th, 2017 by Press Release No Comments

Local farmers and environmental entrepreneurs, Lee and Ken Singh are proud to announce the public’s first opportunity to take a “Sneak Peek” of the all-new Singh Meadows in Tempe, a 72-acre organic oasis overflowing with fresh-plucked veggies, gourmet local foodstuffs and lush, lake-filled grounds. Open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm, Singh Meadows also tempts with an on-site cafe and fresh juice bar, led by the talented culinary trio of Frank Belosic, Jay Bogsinske and Dan Medlen. Now serving grab-and-go salads, pastries, as well as locally roasted coffee and fresh pressed juices. In the near future look for house-baked pizzas, home-made pastas and many more from-scratch food options.

Singh Meadows in Tempe to Open January 21stLocated just north of the 202 Freeway and McClintock Drive on the Tempe-Scottsdale border (behind Big Surf Waterpark), Singh Meadows has been a nearly three-year labor of love for the Singh family, who first made their mark with the 60-acre Singh Farm near downtown Scottsdale, famed for its all-natural veggies, composts, seeds, hydrolyzed fish fertilizer and more. In fact, the city of Tempe reached out to the Singh family in 2014 while considering new uses for this city-owned lot, formerly the longtime home of the Rio Salado Golf Course. And according to Ken Singh, much like at Singh Farms, the process of transforming this patch of desert into an organic oasis started completely beneath the surface. “The process to remediate the soil and create the soil food web needed to grow nutrient dense heirloom vegetables took two and a half years. Chemicals were flushed and organics were added,” he says. “The lake on the land is also well water, which is the purest water available in the Valley.”

Today at Singh Meadows, the fruits of the Singh’s labor are just tiny seedlings, including a sprinkling of garden beds blooming with baby herbs and cool weather veggies such as Swiss chard, all surrounded by acre after acre of sunny, organic grassy meadows and verdant lakeshore. But much like at Singh Farms, Singh Meadows will continue to evolve and flourish over time, as additional crops and gardens are planted, and the on-site kitchen and weekend farmers market continues to expand its offerings.

“Singh Meadows will be constantly evolving as new ideas and concepts come to fruition in the future,” Lee Singh says. “We are dedicated to building a retreat where the community can come together to relax and enjoy nature in the middle of a bustling city.”

Singh Meadows’ Farmers Market will be hosted Saturdays & Sundays from 9am to 3pm, starting on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Singh Meadows will only be open to the public during these hours as well as for private events.
