New Breakfast Menu at Thirsty Lion

Posted on: October 18th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Football season is in full swing and if your house is anything like mine, there are a lot of rowdy mornings of cheers and jeers based on what’s happening in any particular quarter. If you find yourself wanting to get out of the house on Sunday morning to get a bite to eat, but don’t want to miss a single play of your favorite team, Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill has a new breakfast menu that you should check out along with enough tv’s to cover every inch of the field.

The new breakfast menu items will only be available on Saturday and Sunday mornings, beginning at 9:30am. There’s a little bit of everything on the menu, which makes it perfect for the biggest and smallest fans. From breakfast and brunch specialties to early morning and mid-day craft cocktails, you’re covered!

I was recently invited to check out some of the new breakfast menu items and brought my littlest sports fans along after a full morning of soccer practice (a strategic move to make sure that there would be empty plates.)

My boys split the Irish Whiskey French Toast (without the spiked syrup, of course) and they were fighting over the last pieces. The French toast is made up of thick sliced of bread dipped in cinnamon, whiskey, and an Irish cream egg batter. Then the dense toast is coated with crunchy flakes before grilling. The hot and flavorful toast is the loaded up with whipped cream and comes with an ample container of whiskey syrup. (Or maple syrup for those under 21.) There was not one complaint from my boys, who can sometimes be very finicky eaters, but who can be mad at French Toast? I stole a bite here and there and found it to be perfectly sweet, with the layers of flavors each presenting themselves in the bites. Our server brought an extra side of the whiskey syrup, just for me, and that had a nice flavor to it as well without an overt alcohol taste.

New Breakfast Menu at Thirsty Lion_Irish Whiskey French Toast.I opted for the Pub Breakfast which combines three eggs cooked to order, roasted Yukon potatoes, rustic Bianco toast and your choice of grilled spicy sausage or maple pepper bacon. I opted for the spicy sausage. I loved the simplicity of this menu offering, as it’s something that I might make at home for the family on the weekend. It’s not too fussy, but oh-so-comforting. The spicy sausage had an entry level kick to it. You don’t have to be a serious heat lover to enjoy the sausage. There is just enough heat that it announces its presence assertively instead of smacking you across the face.

New Breakfast Menu at Thirsty Lion_Pub BreakfastThirsty Lion has also added Huevos Rancheros to their menu. This combination of red chili pork, Santa Fe black beans, cheddar, jack and Cotija cheeses, fried eggs, pico de gallo, scallions, ranchero sauce and cilantro sour cream. You get a few flour tortillas and Yukon potatoes along with the dish. The marriage of silky yolk and spicy meat is something magical, add in a little warmth from spices and ranchero sauce and you’ll be cheering for more than just your team!

If you want to make your day even spicier, check out the Thirsty Lion Breakfast Burrito. The laundry list of ingredients in this big boy is almost as big as the flavor tucked inside its jumbo flour tortilla. Ready? Here goes: three eggs, chorizo, peppers, Santa Fe bacon black beans, onion, jalapenos, pasilla chilies, cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, ranchero sauce, chipotle aioli and cilantro!

I encourage you to check out the new breakfast menu items when you have a chance. Invite some friends to meet you to watch the game, or just enjoy each other’s company along with some great dishes to start your day!
