Friday Bites with Jody Jackson

Posted on: October 7th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

If you’re a local sports fan, you’re definitely already familiar with Jody Jackson from FOX Sports Arizona. She’s been with the network since 2000, which makes her the longest-tenured member of the network. Jody also holds the honor of being a two-time Emmy Award winner, which she treasures almost as much as her title of wife and mother.

Jody Jackson is the host and reporter during FOX Sports Arizona’s Diamondbacks and Coyotes game broadcasts. She hosts the live post-game shows for the Coyotes and Diamondbacks as well as hosting the pre-game shows for the Diamondbacks. If that weren’t enough immersion, Jody also serves as the in-game reporter.

She serves as the host of Cardinals Headquarters, a weekly program about the Arizona Cardinals as well as a feature reporter for Cardinals In Focus.  Jackson also serves as pre-game host and sideline reporter for Arizona Cardinals pre-season telecasts. She conducted interviews for FOX Sports Arizona’s critically acclaimed “In My Own Words – Anquan Boldin”, “In My Own Words – Kurt Warner” and the Emmy Award-winning “In My Own Words – Frank Kush.”

Jody Jackson’s professionalism and passion for her job are surely inspiring young hopefuls, boys and girls alike, but she will be the first to tell you that the job is not as easy as it looks. Spending so much time traveling with our local sports teams to their away games means a great deal of time away from her husband and her two young children. When she is in town she makes the most of that expertly balanced time and loves to go out to dinner when they can make time.

Wonder where the Queen of Arizona Sports goes for her favorite local eats?

Breakfast spot | Crepe Bar
If you love French inspired food like I do, particularly crepes, you should try this place. It’s quite small and it’s open for breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday. The food and service are terrific.  When you sit down you are surprised by a sample of homemade granola while you wait for your order.
They use local Arizona farm fresh ingredients.  I love the chicken crepe, but they also have unique items like duck and pork belly crepes. I can’t leave without also having a sweet crepe, and with my taste the only choice is chocolate. There are many great options including vanilla bean, maple butter, and Nutella.  They also have a variety of great lattes and teas.

Special occasion dining | Lon’s at the Hermosa
It is near and dear to my heart because it’s the spot my husband first took me on a dinner date. Last year we went back for our 10th anniversary and it is still as magical as ever (our marriage too). The patio is Arizona at its finest.  Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, Lon’s atmosphere and menu reflect the beauty and charm of the southwest.
The menus change seasonally, but I’ve always enjoyed the braised short ribs or fish entree that’s prepared with farm to table ingredients. In fact, there’s an organic garden on the property. The patio is gorgeous but the interior of the restaurant and bar is amazing as well. For a larger group, there’s a wine cellar room where you can dine. Lon’s is an Arizona treasure!

Best burger | Ingo’s Tasty Food
Want to have a picnic in the middle of Phoenix? That’s kind of what Ingo’s feels like. I grabbed a quick burger here in Arcadia and it was amazing. They have salads and sandwiches beyond burgers, too. It’s a great take out spot but I enjoyed the patio. Next time I’ll go for the happy hour and try the freshly made potato chips, too.

Best Italian | Vincitorio’s
A wonderful neighborhood restaurant in South Tempe. They feature handmade pasta, whether it’s the classic Italian dishes (I like eggplant Parmesan and linguini and clams) or entrees inspired by owners Mario and Ginger Vincitorio. It’s a cozy spot with a great wine list and their special recipe cream of mushroom soup that I love so much!

Ice cream parlor | The Sugar Bowl
Ice cream has an important place in my life, I cannot lie. I’ll eat it at home or grab a gelato or even get a drive through milkshake. Pretty much every day. When I was a kid we would go to Jaxson’s Ice Cream parlor in Dania, Florida for an old-fashioned sweet treat experience.
Here in Scottsdale, there is a place that conjures up those childhood memories. The Sugar Bowl is known for its amazing ooey gooey ice cream creations. I’m all about Dutch chocolate ice cream with the bittersweet dark chocolate topping, or the hot fudge (can’t go wrong with either).
They have a full menu but whether you’re at a spring training game or just in Scottsdale, making a stop at the Sugar Bowl is a must. Treat yourself.
