Chef Christopher Honors Julia Child With Special Dinner

Posted on: August 8th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

My first interview with Chef Christopher Gross of Christopher’s and Crush Lounge covered a variety of topics, but the most impacting was his recollection of cooking with the late Julia Child… in his kitchen. He shared with me how much fun she was and he even scolded me, on her behalf of Ms. Child, over a question that I asked.

I used to (after this conversation with Chef Christopher; I have never asked again) ask people what their last meal would be. I know, not super creative, but I liked it because it gave a little glimpse into the chef and what their comfort foods were. He told me that Julia Child had once said she hated being asked that question that it was as if the journalist asking was expecting her imminent death. I had never thought of it in those terms and certainly didn’t intend for it to come across that way. Like, I said, that was the last time I have ever asked anyone that question.

Chef Christopher has a ton of stories about Julia, based on the time they worked together. You may not know Chef Christopher worked alongside Julia Child years ago when she appeared on PBS, hosting her ground-breaking television show.

Chef Christopher is celebrating the woman who is credited to bringing French cuisine to the American mainstream and her bawdy, completely transparent, honest and hilarious personality with a special three-course dinner for what would have been her 104th birthday from August 15th through August 20th.

The three-course dinner will include starters like Duck Liver Terrine, French Onion Soup, Tart Alsatian and Tart of Escargot and entrée options like Lobster Roe Basted White Fish, Coq au Vin, Boudin Noir with Frites and Beef Bourguignon. This special menu will close out with decadent dessert options like a Chocolate Mousse Tower, Tarte Tatin and Profiteroles au Chocolat.

The dinner will be available for $39 per person, not including tax or gratuity. Wine pairings are available for an additional $20 per person.

Since this event is only available for a limited time, seating will be limited and reservations will be required. Make sure to call 602.522.2344 to save your seat!
