2016 Father’s Day in Scottsdale

Posted on: June 12th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Fathers come in all sorts of forms. They can be blood, they can be step-fathers who really stepped up or a father figure. I have the step-father model. While I never really knew my birth father, I didn’t do a lot of pining away for someone that I didn’t know because I met my step-father (also known as my mother’s second husband, to whom she is no longer married to) when I was young enough to know that he wasn’t my “real” dad. He’s the only one I’ve ever known, the only one who ever counted. Even now, almost 20 years since he and my mother divorced, he’s pretty much everything. He has taught me what it means to be responsible, a hard worker, to never settle for bad behavior or second best. He is smart and funny and I am so incredibly proud to call him my family.

So here’s to all the men who have cared for and loved their children, no matter how they came about them. Thank you for raising your sons and daughters to be good humans, and for proving that blood doesn’t always determine who your family is. While we should be celebrating these figures in our lives every day, make sure to carve out a little extra time on Sunday, June 19th to let them know you appreciate all they’ve done for you.
