Pita Jungle Brings Back Empty Bowls

Posted on: November 30th, 2015 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

This time of year can be especially treacherous for our fellow neighbors struck by hard times. For the second year Pita Jungle is holding the Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit Waste Not. The organization is working to ease local hunger by rescuing excess perishable food that would otherwise go to waste and delivering it to a diverse network of organizations that feed the hungry and they have been working to this goal for the last 25 years.Pita Jungle Empty Bowls Event

If you’re unfamiliar, the Empty Bowls are hand-crafted clay bowls that have been created by local artists at the Arizona Clay Association. From December 1st through December 6th, these bowls will be sold for $15 a piece with 100% of the proceeds going to Waste Not. Guests who purchase a bowl will receive a small order of hummus or a serving of soup for dine-in or carryout. The bowls would make a great gift or a welcome addition to a personal collection.

“We are proud to continue to be a part of the Empty Bowls movement here in Arizona and happy to extend to our guests the opportunity to feed our community’s hungry once again this year, ,” said Bassel Osmani, co-founder and co-owner of Pita Jungle. “Hunger remains one of the most prevalent challenges in our state and the heart of our brand is all about supporting local. With the Empty Bowls initiative, we not only get to support local artisans, we also get to support our fellow neighbor in need.”

Every dollar that Waste not receives will feed 6 people here in Arizona. Waste Not has rescued and transferred a record 2.2 million pounds of food last year for those who needed it most. The holidays are a time to be thankful for all that we have but should also be a time to reach out and give to those that do not have much as we do.

Please try to make some time to visit Pita Jungle during this great event. It will be good for your heart!
