October is a crazy busy month and filled with great culinary events. We have put together our best bets for the week, so the only question is where will you be dining this week?

Tuesday, October 20th

Papa Murphy's Jack-O-Lantern PizzaTime to get your Jack-o-Lantern pizzas at Papa Murphy’s
The Jack-O-Lantern pizza is back and will be available at Papa Murphy’s locations nationwide and the Spooky Dough will be available at participating stores from October 20 through October 31.
“Celebrating Halloween with a Papa Murphy’s Jack-O Pizza has become a family tradition that gets everyone in the spirit and is the perfect start to a night of trick-or-treating,” said Ken Calwell, president and chief executive officer of Papa Murphy’s.  “We are thrilled to bring back this fan favorite pizza and our famous seasonal cookie dough as we aim to provide fun meals the whole family loves.”
The annual Jack-O-Lantern Pizza starts with Papa Murphy’s fresh, scratch-made, pumpkin-shaped dough and is topped with traditional red sauce, generous portions of 100 percent whole-milk Mozzarella cheese and as always, a smiling jack-o-lantern face made with premium pepperoni and olives.
Papa Murphy’s specialty Spooky Dough is chocolate chip cookie dough inspired by the Halloween spirit with its bright orange color, reminiscent of a pumpkin. The dough is sold in a one-pound container and is the perfect dessert to bake at home and enjoy with the entire family.
In conjunction with Halloween, Papa Murphy’s encourages pizza fans to pick up a Jack-O-Lantern Pizza to celebrate National Pizza Month, which takes place throughout the month of October. Check out their website to find the location closest to you.

Wednesday, October 21st

Culver's Mesa Hosts a Night of Giving for PCHCulver’s in Mesa Hosts a Night of Giving for PCH
Mark your calendars and join Phoenix Children’s Hospital for dinner at Culver’s on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. On this night, two Culver’s locations in Mesa will be donating 20% of their dinner sales back to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
That’s not all!  Proceeds of a sundae created by professional baseball player, Josh Collmenter, will be donated back to Phoenix Children’s Hospital on this night as well. Collmenter, created his “ultimate sundae” made with Culver’s Chocolate Frozen Custard, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfinger and peanut butter sauce. This sundae will be sold for $2.00 all day at both locations with 100% of the sundae proceeds will go to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Josh Collmenter will be at the restaurant on S. Greenfield Rd.* running trays and scooping custard from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Since opening the doors of the first restaurant in 1984, Culver’s® has been committed to being an active member in its local community.
According to Carissa Rose, owner of Mesa Culver’s, “Phoenix Children’s Hospital holds a special place in my heart and I’m happy to host fundraisers throughout the year for them. We strive to make a difference in the community we share with so many others, and working with Phoenix Children’s Hospital allows us to help support individuals and families in our area.”
Culver’s support of Phoenix Children’s Hospital is just part of their dedication to giving back to the community. From Culver’s founders to each locally owned and operated restaurant, each franchise partner and team member understands the importance of serving those in need. Special Appearance by Josh Collmenter from 6pm to 8pm will take place at 1841 S. Greenfield Rd in Mesa. You can also participate in the charitable event at 1909 S. Country Club Drive in Mesa.

Thursday, October 22nd

Desert to DishDesert to Dish Kicks Off
Desert to Dish is promising to be an incredible weekend of outstanding food and education. The epic weekend begins at 6pm on Thursday with a Chef’s Welcome Reception win which Chef Michael Cairns will host an evening of chef tastings, wine pairings and handcrafted cocktails in the Chef’s Kitchen & Herb Garden. In this intimate setting, guests will mingle with the Desert to Dish chefs and local purveyors making the weekend events possible. It’s the perfect setting to start a fabulous culinary and agricultural experience supporting the James Beard Foundation. Learn more about the scheuduled events and available packages at Omni Hotels.

Padre Murphy Goose Island Dinner
Padre Murphy’s will be hosting a keg tapping of Goose Island Brewery’s Bourbon County (a 14.20% alcohol Imperial Stout from Chicago) on Thursday, October 22 from 4-6 pm and offering guests a chance to win “a Goose Island bicycle that’s more hip than skinny jeans.”
The Bourbon County will be available (until it runs out) at 10 ounces for $10, and limited to two glasses per customer due to the high alcohol content.

Tomaso MaggioreVivo! Wine Dinner: Sicilia My Love
One of the Valley’s most prized chefs and culinary legend, Tomaso Maggiore will host his monthly wine dinner series at Vivo! Ristorante. This month’s motif, “Sicilia My Love,” features the finest food and wine sourced from Sicily, Italy—the hometown of Maggiore. Executive Chef Tomaso Maggiore will prepare an exclusive four-course and seasonal wine dinner at his contemporary Italian restaurant and market that features the highest quality Italian products, authentic pizzeria, and an aperi-dinner.
The wine dinner begins at 6:30 pm with a four-course meal to follow:

  • First course: Rapitaliά Grillo paired with Eggplant Caponata  withRapini & Ricotta Panzerotti and Panelle Chickpea Fritters
  • Second course: Monte Olimpo Chardonnay/Insolia paired withBusiati Con Pesto Di Trapani, a homemade pasta with tomato, basil, almond pesto and grilled shrimp
  • Third course: Firriato Etna Rosso paired with Arancina Di Riso,a rice ball filled with beef tenderloin & pea ragú
  • Fourth course: Firriato Ribeca, Perricone paired with Sicilian Sausage seared in EV olive oil, finished in Monte Olimpo Rosso with grapes, diced pepper & honey along with Roulade of Veal (Involtini), a baked bundle of veal filled with provola cheese, parmigiano & scallions
  • Dolce: Moscato paired with Cassateddi, a warm pastry fritter filled with sweetened ricotta cream & chocolate chips

The “Sicilia My Love” wine dinner is $70 per person, before tax and gratuity. Vivo! Ristorante is located at 6560 North Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale and can be reached at (480) 699-9081 for dinner reservations.

LDV Flights and Bites
Chefs Jayson & Jaymes of Saffron JAK Food Truck Saffron JAK Original Stonebread Pizza Truck brings its unique brand of pizzas to the streets of the Valley and to LDV Winery and the Flights and Bites program. Their pizzas are made with delicious Persian sourdough flatbread (Samgak bread) that you can only find at Saffron JAK. They search for the best ingredients available and strive to work with the local food community to keep it fresh! JAK brothers Jayson and Jaymes Khadeni are passionate food monsters that have grown up by the instilled in them by their dad “Try any food once. Then try it again to make sure!” The event runs from 5:30pm through 8pm and will cost you $25 per person (not including tax or gratuity). Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling 480.664.4822.

The Market by Jennifer's Wine Makers Dinner at The Market by Jennifer’s
The Market Restaurant + Bar by Jennifer’s is hosting a wine makers dinner featuring the wines of La Spinetta. Chef Jennifer Russo has created an indelible menu to accompany the complex wines presented by Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta. The event will feature a seven-course paired dinner filled with education and lots of laugh with old and new friends. The dinner will begin at 6pm and will cost $85 per person (not including tax or gratuity). With limited seating reservations are required and can be made by calling 602.579.5327.

Friday, October 23rd

Desert to Dish Farm Excursions
Explore Arizona’s diverse agriculture landscape alongside one of the visiting Desert to Dish Chefs. Each chef will be paired with a unique selection of the finest farms and local purveyors in the area, for an all-day outing which will include tastings and private tours developed exclusively for this weekend. Guests will have a hands-on experience picking produce and ingredients the region is known for, which will be the centerpiece for the culinary creations to come later in the weekend. Each experience includes a picnic lunch provided by Chef Cairns. Seating is extremely limited.

Desert to Dish Culinary Dreams Reception
Chef Michael Cairns assembles his culinary team to provide a taste of Montelucia. Guests will have the opportunity to experience a variety of tasting stations highlighting the delicious local products showcased on the farm excursions. Additionally, guests will also have the opportunity to learn about our local crafted beers, wines and distilled spirits that are being recognized nationally. In attendance, will not only be the winemakers, master brewers and distilled masters but Chef Cairn’s colleagues and locally nominated James Beard Chefs. A portion of the proceeds benefit the James Beard Foundation, which celebrates, nurtures and honors America’s diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. Tickets: $95 per person or included all Desert to Dish packages. The event begins at 6pm.

2:30 PM – Chef Joe Magnanelli, CUCINA urbana -“Italian Cooking & Techniques”

Desert to Dish Sonoran Showdown
The Desert to Dish finale event brings six renowned chefs from around the nation to showcase their culinary skills in effort to raise proceeds benefitting the James Beard Foundation. Guests feast on chef delicacies hand-crafted using locally sourced ingredients while sipping wine and craft beer from local distributors. The ultimate test comes with a live “iron-chef” style competition featuring an indigenous secret ingredient, with the final vote resting in the hands of the guests. It’s an evening that is sure to expand your culinary palate. Tickets: $125 per person or included in all Desert to Dish packages.

Marcellino Ristorante’s 12th Anniversary
Marcellino Ristorante opened in 2003 in their original North Phoenix location. They’ve been in South Scottsdale since 2010, and we’re celebrating all 12years!
Guests will walk the red carpet and enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbly to kick off the night of celebrations. Guests will also enjoy live music all night and leave with a homemade bag of biscotti, perfect to compliment their morning coffee. Marcellino’s is located at 7114 E. Stetson Dr. in Scotsdale. Sunday, October 25th

Beckett’s Table 5 Year Anniversary Block Party
Beckett’s Table is turning five — and they’re celebrating with a block party and cookout on October 25th!
After enjoying five years of food, friends and fun, Chef Beckett and his team want to celebrate with the community that has supported them through it all. They’ll be taking over the Beckett’s Table parking lot on Sunday, October 25 from 2-6pm for a shindig featuring some of Chef Beckett’s signature dishes, a Four Peaks beer truck, and live music by Sugahbeat!
Tickets are $25 per person which includes plenty of Beckett’s Table’s signature comfort food and 2 drink tickets that are good for beer, wine or soft drinks. They’ll also have a cash bar for those who prefer a cocktail. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Tinyurl.com/Beckettsblockparty.

Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Four Peaks Foundation — a non-profit dedicated to animal welfare.

Sisterhood of the Stove
Statistically, male chefs outnumber female chefs and this can sometime equate to there being more male chefs being featured in articles and shows. In an effort to showcase the great female chefs here in our backyard Chrysa Robertson, chef and owner of Rancho Pinot, created the Sisterhood of the Stove; a fundraising event that features the best of the best. The event was an overwhelming hit last year that a reunion of sorts have been created and scheduled for Sunday. All of the original “sisters” are scheduled to be on hand for the event as well as some new faces. Charleen Badman of FnB, BJ Hernandez of the former Havana Cafe, Tract Dempsey of Tracy Dempsey Originals, Lori Hashimoto of Hana Japanese Eatery, Helen Yung of Sweet Republic, Silvana Salcido Esparza, Shannon Plowman of La Vie Marketplace & Cafe, Danielle Leoni of Breadfruit & Rum Bar, Mandy Bublitz of St. Francis, Tammie Coe of Tammie Coe Cakes, Eugenia Theodosopoulos of Essence Bakery and Rachel Miller of Pistol Whipped Pastry. I can’t imagine a more eclectic and empowering gathering sure to elevate your palate and raise funds and awareness for Joy Bus, a Phoenix based non-profit organization headed by Jennifer Caraway that prepares and delivers free meal to patients fighting cancer.
The event will be held from 1pm until 4pm at the Cattletrack Compund in Scottsdale. Tickets are $100 and include tax, gratuity and Arizona wines and beer. You can make reservations or get more information by emailing ranchopinot@hotmail.com.

ONe TRUe LOVe Halloweenie Roast
If you haven’t heard of One True Love, they are a non-profit organization that serve the homeless community here in the Valley by providing meals and necessities at no cost They function on the love and time of volunteers and donations. The don’t only provide meals, they provide love, compassion, an ear, a hug and for many hope. They will be out at 12th Avenue and Madison from 3pm until 6pm serving up bratwurst with all the fixings to the community along with a pumpkin painting station and a trick or treating booth. Check out their Facebook Event and see if you are able to help in anyway. In addition, if you are needing a little extra serving of joy, volunteer and prepare to feel your heart explode with gratitude and love.
