Local Restaurants Celebrate our Military Residents on Memorial Day

Posted on: May 24th, 2015 by Taryn Jeffries 5 Comments

Memorial Day represents so much more than a 3-day weekend. It’s a day to reflect on the ultimate sacrifices that our fallen servicemen have given to protect each American’s freedoms. While we all have differing political views, I think that this day is so vitally important regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum.Memorial Day

So, while we have gathered a list of local restaurants that are offering up special deals and discounts on Memorial Day, it’s important to reflect on the reason for the holiday. I come from a very large family (my Mother is one of 14 children and my father is one of 5 children) and I have several Aunts, Uncles and cousins that have served in the military and our families have been fortunate enough to have not lost anyone while in active duty, though that possibility always existed. Military life is hard; hard on the service member and hard for the families of the service member. While you are enjoying your day off and any one of these great deals, take a moment to say a silent (or loud) thank you to those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

If you are looking for a an exceptional dish to bring to a backyard BBQ or gathering, check out my friend Tia of Desert Healthy‘s quick and savory Balsamic Quinoa and Goat Cheese Portobello Mushrooms. They are hearty, healthy and are sure to please any group of partiers.
