There are few meals that can compare with a perfectly prepared thick and juicy steak. Yes, we’re all more mindful of our meals these days but there are certain occasions in which you want to throw caution to the wind and at times your diet and indulge. We scoured the Valley for the most substantial, sizeable and huge steaks. Head out to any one of these local spots and settle in and gratify the manliest of cravings!

Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse

First off, Ben & Jack’s décor and ambiance scream masculinity, making it the perfect spot for an outing with your favorite steak lover. The dark wood and mirrors create a certain feeling, akin to that of an old school den or library. The menu falls in line with traditional steakhouse offerings, with the obvious stars being the steaks all of which are dry-aged in their own aging box. While you’re here, go big with the 28-ounce rib eye steak. The huge steak will arrive beautifully charred with such a delicate flavor that you’ll be making up reasons to come back and celebrate again and again.

Bourbon Steak
7575 E. Princess Dr., Scottsdale
480.585.2694
Michael Mina knows what it takes to create a stand-out restaurant, with a culinary presence in eight US locations. Bourbon Steak is located in the Princess Fairmont with Chef Chris Curtiss at the helm. The succulent steaks here are prepared by first being tempered in butter and then fired over a mesquite flame. The biggest and brightest on the menu here is the 32 ounce Dry-Aged Porterhouse. The dry aging imparts a distinctive flavor to the huge steak as does the butter poaching for the most discerning of diners.

J & G Steakhouse
6000 E. Camelback Rd., Scottsdale

Michelin-starred chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, has helped to create an incredibly sophisticated restaurant nestled atop The Phoenician from the décor, accouterments and especially the cleverly created dishes. Among the many delectable entrees featured on the dinner menu the most intriguing, and certainly the most robust, would have to be their 32 ounce Wagyu Tomahawk steak. The delicate and unique flavor of the Wagyu in such a large amount is the perfect way to indulge.

Mastro’s Steakhouse
8852 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale
480.585.9500
Mastro’s Steakhouse seems to me to be a place where Don Draper and his cohorts would have met up for business dinners or a place to unwind after closing on a big campaign. The old-school class that is present in every dish, drink and staff member here will surely impress you and your guests. And the steaks? Big, bold and beautiful! The clear forerunner here has to be the 48-ounce Double Cut Porterhouse. While this may be presented as a dish to share, you may just want to hoard this indulgent cut of meat. The buttery huge steak will arrive masterfully prepared and tender enough to cut with a fork. If you somehow end up with a little extra room make sure to try their highly lauded Butter Cake.

Paul Martin’s American Grill
6186 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale

Paul Martin’s was created out of a desire to have an accessible neighborhood spot to enjoy an exceptional steak and creative artisanal cocktails. With Paul Martin’s primarily being a California restaurant, the owners have brought a unique flavor to steakhouse fare here in the Valley. The ingredients used in all their dishes come from sustainable fisheries, free-range and natural meats and poultry. The motto here is “Seasonal and Delicious” and that shows in their carefully crafted dishes. The star steak here is the heavenly Prime New York Steak, perfectly seared and a melts in your mouth texture. They also carry a selection of craft beers and over 100 wines, most of which are available by the glass to enhance your dining experience.

Pinnacle Peak Patio
10426 E. Jomax Rd., Scottsdale
480.585.1599
Having been in situated in the Valley since 1957, Pinnacle Peak Patio knows a thing or two about the Wild West and the appetites of hard working Cowboys. The dinner entrees are heavy on sizeable steaks, the biggest of which is the 32-ounce porterhouse named the “Cowboy.” If the size alone conjures up the image of a huge steak on a plate you can barely see you would be spot on. This massive steak is grilled over real mesquite wood and come with a salad, cowboy beans and whole wheat bread and butter and if you can clean your plate you’ll win the admiration and respect of all those at your table. In the event that the meal isn’t enough, Pinnacle Peak Patio is also the home of “the world’s largest necktie collection,” created by the tradition of snipping the ties off of patrons that were dressed too formally.
