Mex-cessorize your kitchen with products from IMUSA and McCormick Spices

With just a few days left in National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th-October 15th), there’s no better time to spice up your life with fiery flavors! Whether you have roots in Spain, Mexico, or the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South American and the Caribbean or you just appreciate a full-flavored Mexican dish, you can participate (I’ve yet to find one person who would turn down a batch of homemade tortillas and a bowl of fresh salsa!

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, I had the opportunity to test out a few items from IMUSA and McCormick Spices to help pump up the heat in my kitchen. I was lucky enough to receive a variety of items including these few favorites:

The festive IMUSA Multicolor Salsa Dishes that come in a set of three (red, yellow and green). I already had a plastic set of salsa dishes in my cabinets, but these were much thicker and felt more sturdy. The 3 year old in my house quickly confiscated these and deemed them as her ‘snack bowls.’ The variety of colors come in handy when each guest has ladled out their own bowl of salsa and we can’t remember whose is whose. Find them on Amazon for $3.09.

Another handy item was the IMUSA Cloth Tortilla Warmer. It’s super easy to pack a few tortillas inside and quickly warm them in the microwave. The warmer kept them nice and toasty for a good 15 minutes, at least. You can pick these up at Target.com for $4.99.

My favorite item of the bunch was the IMUSA Granite Molcajete, a large, ultra-durable natural granite mortar & pestle perfect for make-and-serve same-dish items like guacamole and even pesto. After having it around for a couple weeks, I found tons of unordinary uses for it from making homemade rubs, grinding almonds into a ‘flour’ and even crushing our morning supplements! Definitely a handy item in the kitchen and it’s handsome enough to be left out on the counter and displayed.

I received several pantry spices from McCormick including many staples like Black Pepper, Cumin, Mexican Oregano, Chili Powder, and Dried Cilantro Leaves. I’m sure you’ve seen their recipe mixes that are packaged in those little packets on the spice aisle of your grocery store, right? You know, their Taco Blend, Enchilada Blend, etc. Though my family tends to concoct our own spice blends for most of our dinners, I’m not ashamed to admit that if we’re running low on a few spices or are in a time crunch, we’ve reached for a recipe packet more than a few times. Their Tinga de Pollo recipe mix is a particular favorite (we make it completely different, in the slow cooker with lime juice rather than tomato sauce for chicken tacos with pickled red onions, pickled radish, avocado and cilantro… super good!).

I haven’t been there for the past few years, but my favorite is the extended family tamale fest the week before Thanksgiving. Assembly line style, 100+ dozen in one day. Tons of fun with the family. Such great memories.
