Win it: $50 gift card to Roy’s Restaurant and enjoy Prix Fixe Mondays

Posted on: September 12th, 2013 by Amy Martin 23 Comments

Craving a bit of Hawaiian flare? You’re in luck! Roy’s Restaurant recently re-launched its ‘My Prix Fixe Monday’ program where guests can enjoy a choice of an appetizer and an entrée for $29.95.  To celebrate the return of Prix Fixe Mondays, we’re excited to announce a giveaway—one of our readers will win a $50 Roy’s Dining Card to use at their local Roy’s location! Details on how to enter are below.

Here in the Valley, you’ll find Roy’s in Phoenix inside the Desert Ridge Marriot and in Chandler. If you’re visiting the Desert Ridge location, request a seat by a window when calling to make your reservation for a view of the resort’s landscaping and a bit more openness.

I loved seeing the mix of diners seated in the restaurant. Next to us sat a group of four adults, dressed up a bit and celebrating a special occasion while the table across from us sat a mom and her two children drinking chocolate milk. The atmosphere is laid-back, unpretentious and comfortable. Ahh… the Hawaiian lifestyle…

Pay extra attention to the cocktail offerings if you’re looking for a cold beverage—most guests seemed to be sipping from a tropically-garnished glass.  Try the 1988—a tribute to their first year in Honolulu—made with Finlandia Grapefruit, SOHO Lychee and Patron Citronge, or the Hawaiian Martini (their signature drink) made with Maui pineapples soaked in SKYY Vodka, Stoli Vanilla and Malibu.

On a recent visit, I shared the Roy’s Canoe Appetizer for Two ($28.95) with my dining companion so we could get a taste of their most popular apps.

If you’re not up for the splurge or are taking advantage of Prix Fixe Mondays, I definitely recommend ordering the Crunchy Golden Lobster Potstickers ($11.95) that are plated atop Togarashi Miso Butter Sauce that makes them super decadent, or try the Grilled Szechaun Spiced Pork Ribs ($10.95); they seem to be a crowd favorite.

Salad options include a light Beet Salad ($9.95) with roasted baby red and golden beets, Chevre cream, candied Macadamia nuts and lightly dressed with meyer lemon oil. I’m a big fan of beet salads, so this already had my name on it. The sweet and crunchy Macadamia nuts were a nice surprise… I wish I could have taken some home to snack on!

My dining companion chose the House Salad ($8.95) plated with beet puree and hot house cucumbers and tossed with a creamy herb dressing that we both wished was bottled for purchase.

If you’ve never been in to Roy’s before, you’ve gotta try their signature entrée—the Misoyaki Butterfish ($33.95). Hands down, it has gotten the most love of all of the dishes here. The creamy, melt-in-your-mouth butterfish is so delicate, but still incredibly rich and sits in a bath of their flavorful ‘sizzling soy vinaigrette’ with baby bok choy, carrots and steamed white rice. The portion size is quite generous, but I’m pretty certain everyone at your table will try to steal a bite.

If you’re indecisive, try one of the Mixed Plate Combos to get a taste of a few favorites. The ‘Roy’s Trio’ includes Hibachi Salmon, Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi, and the Misoyaki Butterfish with baby bok choy and steamed rice for $33.95. If you’re split between ordering ‘From the Land’ or ‘From the Sea’ try the Surf & Turf ($39.95) with a petit filet, lump crab oscar and split Maine lobster on top of Poblano mashed potatoes and asparagus. Those Poblano mashed potatoes are sooo good.

Save plenty of room for dessert–the warm Chocolate Souffle  with housemade vanilla ice cream is quite good (and rich!) and the Pineapple Upside Down Cake is a winner among non-chocolate fanatics.
