Chef Josh Hebert of Posh Restaurant in Scottsdale shares 6 tips on how to transform ramen from a one-dollar meal to a high-end dish:
- Ramen can actually be prepared in a coffee maker by placing all ingredients from the $.49 package of ramen in the carafe and running the water through it as if you were making coffee.
- The better option, however, is to go the traditional route by making your own stock and either making your own noodles or purchasing frozen ramen noodles from a Japanese market. This combination will dramatically improve the flavor.
- For a fairly simple broth combine stock, garlic, soy sauce and miso, add noodles and a dash of dashi to create an umami bomb.
- Get creative with the garnish.
- Add your meat of choice such as pork or shrimp, or tofu for vegetarians, and pickled bamboo, nori, a soft boiled egg, and julienned leeks.
- To add some bright color, add two slices of fish cake.
