Resort chefs go head-to-head to send underprivileged kids to culinary school

Posted on: February 11th, 2013 by Amy Martin 1 Comment

On Sunday, March 10th at the beautiful Sanctuary on Camelback, three well-known Valley chefs come together to participate in a daunting culinary battle all in the name of charity. Chef Lee Hillson (The Phoenician Resort) and Chef Stephen Toevs (Ritz-Carlton Phoenix) will go head-to-head to raise money for C-CAP (Careers through Culinary Arts Program) Arizona and claim the 2013 C-CAP Heavy Medal title. Chef Michael De Maria (M Culinary Concepts) will emcee.

Guests will be able to get a ‘bite’ of the action and enjoy a lavish dinner with selected wines. To sweeten the pot even further, two guests will have the chance to join a local celebrity panel of judges to determine the winner of the battle.

The event will begin at 6pm with a cocktail reception and silent auction. The culinary battle begins at 7pm with dinner following immediately after. Net proceeds from the event will benefit highly qualified graduating seniors in financial need with culinary scholarships.

Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) marked a record year in 2012, handing out over $3 million in scholarships to disadvantaged high schools kids. The Arizona C-CAP Program contributed $600,000 to that record.  C-CAP’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty through the culinary arts. It runs programs in high schools throughout Arizona, donating supplies, offering mentorships, and connecting kids to internships and jobs who might otherwise struggle with their futures. Learn more about the program at ccapinc.org.

Tickets are $175 per person (before February 15th) and $225 per person after. Buy yours online at blacktie-arizona.com/rsvp and enter the event code: ccap2013.
