Posted on: October 17th, 2012 by Amy Martin 1 Comment

Cancel your dinner plans on October 23rd for a one-of-a-kind dinner experience at Distrito at Scottsdale’s Saguaro Hotel. Tuesday, at 6:30pm Iron Chef Jose Garces will introduce his newest cookbook, The Latin Road Home, at a special five-course dinner to celebrate his award-winning Latin-inspired cuisine.

His second cookbook to date, this venture explores significant cuisines that have impacted Chef Garces’ culinary development as it tells the story of his food journey in chronological order. Each chapter will revisit a specific place that helped shape his career today, beginning in Ecuador which will include recipes from his childhood he prepared with his mother and grandmother. Chef Masaharu Morimoto already commented on the new book saying, “The Latin Road Home is Chef Garces’ passionate, personal introduction to Latin cuisine. His love of unpretentious home cooking and his superb culinary techniques are beautifully integrated in each recipe.”

Guests of the October 23rd dinner will enjoy a special meet-and-greet cocktail reception with Chef Garces and five courses representing each of the five countries mentioned in his book. A copy of The Latin Road Home is also included in the dinner and you’ll even have an opportunity to get yours signed. Seats are priced at $125 per person (exclusive of tax and gratuity) and the evening is sure to be one you won’t soon forget as Chef Garces reminisces his childhood and culinary excursions.

The menu will show off a variety of small bites at the cocktail reception and coursed plates include: Ceviche de Atun (tuna ceviche with citrus and chiles), Aguadito de Pato (stewed duck in broth with potatoes, peas and chiles), Merluza en Salsa Verde (hake filets in clam and herb sauce with grilled spring onions with almond sauce), Lechon Asado (achiote and citrus marinated roast suckling pig with black beans and rice, yucca with sour orange mojo and fried sweet plantains), and Pastel de Tres Leches (tres leches cake with cinnamon and nutmeg).

If you can’t swing the main event, you’ll still have an opportunity to taste dishes from the new cookbook as Distrito will offer a special tasting menu ($45) with four-courses from the Mexican portion of The Latin Road Home, October 17 through November 18.
