Chasing Venus Sav Blanc: Pairing those hors d’oeuvres

Posted on: September 10th, 2012 by Tom Peiffer No Comments

New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blancs continue to shine on. So much in fact, that for people who love their seafood appetizers, there is no better wine pair. Keep this in mind if you’re planning to feature seafood before and during an upcoming celebration, and be sure to include one of these libations along with the platter.

Showing off New Zealand’s Marlborough region’s Sauvignon Blanc’s minerally sharp citrus flavors, with a lead-in of pineapple and grapefruit, Chasing Venus has the bright charm that this country is famous for.  Not only will the clever name based on Captain Cook’s successful search for the lands down under be of interest as a yarn to spin along with the meal, but if your guests enjoy seafood, the crisp body of this wine is like adding a splash of lemon to those raw oysters!

It’s also sure to be a hit after the appetizers with a big pan of trout or a brimming plate of scallops.  “CV” is a great wine to lavish in along with your fish and not complicate matters with a heavy price.  You can pick it up at Phoenix area Total Wine stores for $13.99.

Because the bouquet of this wine comes forward best without a lot of chill, serve it from the fridge after about 30 minutes (60-65 degrees).

And be sure to drink this one with along with food, it’s not a good solo act.

About the Author - Tom Peiffer

Tom has been an avid wine consumer and collector for over 20 years. This pastime has taken he and his family on many visits to wine growing regions, including Arizona. During these excursions, with the accompanying tastings and lectures, it became clear that there is no "magic bullet" wine. For each wine contains its own character, strong points, and weaknesses. Sharing these experiences to help anyone purchase locally available wines is his goal.
