Cookware from Le Creuset

Posted on: August 14th, 2012 by Amy Martin 9 Comments

Investing in high-quality cookware and appropriately sized pans makes all the difference in constructing a good dish versus a great dish. Having been in business since 1925 creating cast-iron cookware, Le Creuset does it right. Today, they design products to fit almost any kitchen need from cookware, bakeware, serveware, kitchen gadgets, and everything in between.

We are very excited to announce a new giveaway for a couple of our favorite Le Creuset products. One of our readers will win a 3-ply Stainless Steel Chef’s Saute Pan and a Cast Iron Skillet.

I had the opportunity to test both items and now they’ve become an invaluable addition to my collection of cookware.

The 3-ply Stainless Steel Chef’s Pan is a definite favorite of mine. Not only is the pan gorgeous with its mirror finish on the interior (you’ll feel like a chef in your own home kitchen), but it is incredibly sturdy and stands up to any job. Its 3-layer construction has a “base to rim” aluminum core  that allows for all-over heat distribution and retention, assuring that your food is cooked evenly. Its mirror finish interior aids for ideal searing and roasting so you’ll get a nice ‘crust’ on your meats and sear on those veggies. The pan’s all-around pouring rim ensures that there will be no dripping if you need to drizzle pan juices or tip out sauces. My chef’s pan measured at 9 1/2 inches wide and holds 3 1/2 quarts, so it is quite large and plenty big for cooking up a couple pieces of meat or fish, though its uses range from reducing sauces, making a risotto, sauteing veggies or even heating up leftovers. Though the pan is quite heavy, it has two handles on either side of the pan so it is easy to transfer from stove to counter. Clean up was a breeze since it is dishwasher safe. Bottom line? I want to purchase all of their tri-ply stainless steel pan in this line!

Much different from the pan above (though still a front-runner-favorite in my kitchen) is the Enamelled Cast Iron SkilletEvery home cook should have a good cast iron skillet in their cupboards, especially if you have Midwest roots like I do and love a golden fry on your favorite comfort foods. Cast iron skillets are beloved for their durability – stove top frying, oven baking and searing  is made easy with these high quality skillets. In my opinion, the BEST fried chicken is only made in a black iron skillet and same goes for breakfast potatoes. They usually come with a high price tag, but are so, so worth the investment. Le Creuset’s Enamelled Cast Iron Skillet meets every mark in my book. It’s heavy, as it should be, and can withstand a lifetime of cooking (literally – the pan comes with a lifetime warranty) in your kitchen. The pan has a gorgeous exterior enamel (available in a myriad of colors) and a satin black enamel on the interior protecting it inside and out from cracking, chipping and excessive wear. Because of the interior enamel, there’s no need to season the pan before first use. What I love most about cast irons is that nice, black patina that develops over time, perfect for frying and searing. It just makes everything… better. Because the pan is so heavy, I appreciated that an additional ‘loop handle’ is on the opposite side for easy lifting.
