Le burger wine: Le Lapin Multiplicity red blend

Posted on: July 27th, 2012 by Tom Peiffer No Comments

When it comes to choosing wines to go along with a batch of burgers, it’s actually quite challenging to get any of the “standards” to work.  What happens is most people pile so many condiments on their burger that what started out as a simple beef and bread entrée morphs into a sliding, ”What the @$&#?”

At any rate, most red wines, other than a few really zapped out on-the-edge Zinfandels, are just “lost in the noise” of most burger concoctions.  So why spend a lot of dough on a pedigreed wine that may not even work with the burgers anyway?

That’s just the point, when playing around with burgers, stick with a bucket of beer or find a low cost “body bomb” wine that will do a good burger justice.  For starters, a wine that has at least the words Zinfandel or Petit Syrah somewhere in the mix is a good idea.  Also note that good burger wines may never work solo and NEED the burger plus condiments just to balance things out.

Luckily, Rabbit Ridge just happens to have one in their little shop of vinos called Multiplicity that may fill the bill.  It’s cheap.  It’s got a great big red ruddy body.  And solo, it’s bizarre.  But with a mushroom-cheese burger and chili sauce, it’s downright zeelicious.  And finally, it’s got Petite Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Refosco floating around in the blend.  Add 14.5% alcohol and an under $10 price, such a deal!

To make it easy, Multiplicity is still in stock at Phoenix area AJs for $8.99.  They are still keeping it around, so there’s obviously a following for this sassy Paso Robles red blend.
