ActiFry: French Fries Fried with Only One Tablespoon of Oil

Posted on: October 5th, 2011 by Amy Martin No Comments

The team at T-fal has developed a line, Nutritious & Delicious, a range of culinary appliances that help home cooks cook food in ways that preserve nutritional integrity and allow the taste of ingredients to fully be appreciated. As a part of this line, they released the ActiFry. The ActiFry is a unique multi-cooker that can stir fry, roast, steam and quickly “slow-cook” a variety of proteins, vegetables and fruits. And, it does most of the hard work for you (all you have to is prep!), making this appliances ideal for busy families and individuals who don’t have much time for active cooking (no preheating required).

Because meals made in the ActiFry require only one tablespoon of oil for cooking (even for French fries), the ActiFry cuts down on fat intake but doesn’t compromise flavor. The appliance comes with a handy recipe book with instructions for a variety of meals, including: French Fries and Potato Wedges, Chicken Wings, Chicken Tikka Masala, Sesame Beef with Broccoli, Tomato-Basil Mussels, Fried Rice and more.

When I read that the ActiFry can produce crispy fried French fries with only one tablespoon of oil for two pounds of potatoes, I’ll admit I was more than skeptical. So, I put it to the test and guess what? They were right. Crispy golden on the outside, soft in the center.  Sure, you’re missing that deep-fat flavor, but lessening calorie intake counts for something! How does it work? The ActiFry’s built in paddle works to constantly stir the contents, lightly coating each piece with oil. No need to stir or flip. We tested chicken wings too and in 30 minutes they came out perfectly golden and crisp.

Clean-up is a cinch too – all parts are removable and dishwasher safe. The verdict? I’m sold, especially for busy nights and juggling a toddler.

The ActiFry ($249.00) can be purchased at various retailers nationwide, including Bed Bath & Beyond. Visit their website for more information at tfal.com. Peruse their list of recipes too at nutritiousanddelicious.com.
