Miracles Do Happen Benefit Event Set for Saturday April 9th

Posted on: March 1st, 2011 by Taryn Jeffries 2 Comments

As mothers, neither I nor Amy can imagine the strength that the McCracken family has and we fully support their cause and invite you to join them in their second charitable event, “Miracles Do Happen White Party” to support March of Dimes.

For the 2nd year, Former Arizona Diamondback Quinton McCracken and his wife Maggie will be hosting a special event at their restaurant, Upper Deck Sports Grill in Scottsdale, focused on raising funds for the March of Dimes through McCracken’s charity, Miracles Do Happen.

Miracles Do Happen was launched in the honor of their son, who holds the title of the youngest baby ever born to survive at Scottsdale North Hospital.

“In July 2009, our son Isaiah was born at only 23 weeks. He was 1.7 pounds and only 12 inches long. He had a 10 percent chance of survival and spent four and a half months in the NICU at Scottsdale North Hospital,” said Quinton. “Against all odds, he made it through,” said Quinton McCracken. “Immediately, we knew we wanted to help other parents going through what we did and founded our own charity, Miracles Do Happen.”

The Miracles Do Happen event is set for Saturday, April 9th – just hours after the McCracken’s team walks in the annual March of Dimes Walk for Babies event – and will feature a “white party” theme. Doors open to the public at 7pm and admission is free.

There will be food and drink specials throughout the evening as well as silent auction and raffle opportunities, thanks to generous donations from local spas, resorts and fellow sports figures including Jerome Bettis, Eddie George, Luis Gonzales and many more. KTVK TV3’s Erika Williams, wife of McCracken’s former Diamondbacks teammate Matt Williams, will host during the evening.

This is the second year of the event. Last year, the McCracken set a goal to raise $500 and were surprised to raise more than $10,000.  “We are determined to do even better this year,” said Maggie McCracken. “We welcome the entire community to don their best white outfits and join us for an evening of fun for an amazing cause. A miracle happened for us, and we hope we can help miracles happen for others.”

I had the pleasure of attending Maggie’s last fundraiser at Sapporo for March for Babies and hearing her tell her powerful story to a large crowd. Isaiah is – no doubt – a true miracle. And so are his parents. Can’t wait to help support this event…and celebrate!

Last year’s event was amazing. This year will be bigger and better, if that is even possible. I will be there with “White” on and I hope you will too. Come hang out with your favorite local celebrities and bid on some great auction items – all for a great cause. And it is open to the public! You can’t beat that.
