Georgann, 38, from Chicago, is married with a two-year-old daughter. She is a speech pathologist who desperately wants to learn how to cook in order to prepare nutritious meals for her family. Her inability to do anything in the kitchen has become a major bone of contention in her relationship, and she wants to lay it to rest.

PhoenixBites Interview With Georgann Coleman

PhoenixBites: Of all your favorite meals, what one dish would you like to learn to master?

Georgann Coleman: This is difficult to answer because I love to eat and have innumerable favorites (especially living in Chicago).  Of all my favorite meals on the show, I would like to learn how to master the mahi-mahi w/ mango chutney dish.  This is a meal I would eat several times a week if I could get the fish perfectly crunchy and scrumptious.  It’s also a very healthy dish that I would be proud to serve to anyone.  Out of all of my favorite dishes in the world, I would love to be able to make sushi.  I love sushi, so it would be a handy skill to have when a craving comes on.  More importantly, if I could master the creation of sushi rolls, I think it would be a show-stopper at parties for sure.

PhoenixBites: Is there a person (chef, home cook, family member, etc.) that has inspired you to sharpen your culinary abilities?

Georgann Coleman: My wife, Teresa, definitely sparked an inspiration in me through her own skills and willingness to cook wonderfully delicious meals for our family.   During the show, Chef Robert became a huge inspiration to me because of his sheer mad-love for cooking and creating beautiful plates for others.  He really opened my eyes to the very large world of food, cooking and preparing meals from the heart… not to mention refining my taste a bit.  Through the show process, I came to realize that both of my grandmothers, along with my own mother, have been probably the most powerful inspirations to me.  I have had time to reflect on how much time, energy and love these women put into their families.  A lot of that had to do with preparing meals and sharing them as a family which is irreplaceable.  One of my favorite times of the day has become sitting down at the dinner table every night with my daughter, Quinn.  Sharing my cooking with my family has been the most rewarding aspect of being on the show.

PhoenixBites: Any advice you can give to our readers who may be beginners in the kitchen?

Georgann Coleman: Walk through any fear that you might have and go for it.  I came to realize (through Chef Robert’s yelling it) that messing up is part of the process and learning from your mistakes can make you great in the kitchen.  A prayer or two might help as well… but just have fun!  For crying out loud… it’s only food!

Set your DVRs! “Worst Cooks in America” airs on Sunday evenings at 9pm ET/PT on Food Network.

    Georg,
I saw your name in the Millikin Quarterly. I remember being your RA back in the day. Tried to find you in Facebook. When I couldn’t, I googled you. I had no idea you were famous! Congrats on the show! Hope you’ve forgiven your partner by now. 🙂
