A Taste of Paradise Re-cap
Last weekend, Christ Church of the Ascension hosted A Taste of Paradise, a culinary benefit, on Saturday, October 23rd. Given the opportunity to attend, I was extremely eager for what was in store…
The event featured six food vendors and two beverage vendors, a silent auction, and a raffle with proceeds from the event benefiting Haitian Relief and Redevelopment (Episcopal Diocese of Haiti) and Good Shepherd Episcopal Mission (Navajo Nation).
Most tables were manned by church volunteers instead of restaurant staff, but they were so kind and cordial offering up samples.
Here’s the rundown:
Four Peaks Brewery provided four different types of beer: 8th Street Ale (an English-style Best Bitter, balanced between malt and hop), Hop Knot (an American-style IPA, fresh hop, mild malt), Tribute Sunbru (True Cologne-style Kolsch Bler, light, crisp, and refreshing), Kiltlifter (A Scottish-style Export Ale, malty sweet with toasted, smoky notes).
Pillsbury Wine Company provided a variety of wines.
Urban Beans offered a delicious Iced Vanilla Latte and a moist, oh-so-decadent Espresso Brownie.
Streets of New York brought their Chopped Antipasto Salad (Capicola ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mixed bell peppers, pepperoncinis, black and green olives, Swiss and mozzarella cheese, tossed with “Streets Special Italian” dressing), Classic Pepperoni Pizza and Breadsticks.
L’Amore Ristorante offered their signature ravioli.
RA Sushi served a variety of sushi including their Spicy Tuna Roll, Tootsie Maki and Shrimp & Salmon Nigiri.
Short Leash Dogs, a mobile hot dog eatery, (I was really excited to meet this crew!) brought out their famous Corn-Ups (Corn dogs stuffed with cheddar cheese and jalapeno). Spectacular!
And finally, Torched Goodness offered up dessert: Crème brûlée, choice of vanilla or cappuccino. I opted for vanilla and thought it was fabulous. I’ll have to stop by one of the farmer’s markets to try their other flavors soon!
