Posted on: August 21st, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

With so many stories of restaurants opening and closing, it’s a nice change of pace to hear about a successful award-winning restaurant adding to their kitchen staff. Market Street Kitchen’s new executive chef, Michael Hunn is excited to take over the helm and we are eager to see the changes in store.

Get to know Chef Michael Hunn

Chef Hunn hails from Chicago, so he’s already a winner in my book! Another thing we have in common is that he learned to cook from his grandmother–the only distinction here is his was Italian. Chef Hunn’s father worked at Oscar Meyer and Kraft while he was growing up and subsequently taught him the ins and outs of the food service industry.

He started his journey working in Chicago kitchens like the original Weber Grill, the Four Season Hotel Chicago, and Japonais. He made a short pit stop in Phoenix working at Sam Fox’s Bloom Restaurant and Roy’s at the Marriott Desert Ridge before he was drawn in by the lights and drama of Las Vegas where he worked for renowned Vegas chef Brian Massie of the Light Group at five different MGM casino restaurants.

Chef Hunn has been classically trained in both French and Italian cuisines and uses Japanese influenced discipline in his preparations. He’s been noted as stating that one of his favorite parts of the day is speaking with fishmongers, produce farmers and his favorite meat purveyors. Chef Hunn is a lover of regional American cooking and comfort foods and hopes to parlay that into the market-driven menu at Market Street Kitchen.

Chef Hunn credits his finance and three children (18, 6, and 5) as his favorite food critics! We can’t wait to see what he’ll be cooking up at Market Street Kitchen! Welcome back to the Valley, Chef Hunn!
