Some Like It Hot…

Hot wings are everywhere, but it’s rare that you find one flawless. Big, juicy, crispy on the outside, not too messy, full of flavor, and most importantly – HOT!

Sugar Shack Sports Grill in Scottsdale has set the bar. On a recent visit, I tasted a friend’s order of these feisty bites and boy, are they hot! The menu gives you the option to order them grilled or baked (get them grilled!) and either mild, medium, hot, Ancho BBQ or (for the brave ones only) Ancho Suicide. My tablemate loves spicy, so she chose hot. And that they were!

When these arrived at our table, mouths started drooling. Looking at them, they aren’t totally drenched or swimming in sauce, so it’s a bit of trickery once they hit your mouth. These guys pack a punch and had such a great, smoky flavor. If you can’t handle the heat, try them in their Medium sauce. But, if you think you’ve got what it takes I’d definitely recommend the hot. I’d have them no other way.

Grilled HOT Wings

Before we left, we got to sample (just a dab) of the Ancho Suicide Sauce. This stuff should come with a disclaimer because it’s intense. Only a select few can truly handle it, but those that can should consider themselves lucky. Most intense sauces kill your taste buds immediately and you’re left with no flavor and only a burn. Not the Suicide. As soon as each of us tasted the sauce we all agreed it had great flavor, great smokiness, then it hits you. Fire. But, delicious fire. I can’t wait to try the Suicide wings. I might need a spray bottle of ice cold water and a tall glass of milk, but it’s a challenge I’m up for.

Word on the street is they’ll even make you an Ancho Suicide Bloody Mary for the bravest of the brave!

The owners Todd and Trisha Steadman are incredibly friendly and welcome feedback. The Sugar Shack makes a perfect hangout for sports nuts. The entire dining area and bar is surrounded by flat screen TVs so that no matter where you sit, you’re able to view your game.

It’s official… I’m in love with a hot wing! Don’t forget to try them on your next visit!
